How it works
How do toothpaste tablets work?
Simply pop a tablet, lightly chew to activate, brush for 2+ minutes with a wet toothbrush, spit and smile.
How do mouthwash tablets work?
Simply pop a tablet, lightly chew to activate, swish for 30+ seconds with optional sip of water, spit and smile.
How does a tablet become toothpaste or mouthwash?
After chewing your tablet, it will mix with your saliva (plus any optional water you may like to add) and quickly generate into a foamy paste or swishable liquid.
How many tablets should I use?
Our tablets are portioned to generate the exact amount of product you need to get a whole mouth clean. That said, there is no harm in using 2 tablets at a time if you prefer.
What to expect
What do Mintly tablets taste like?
In short - minty! We use 100% natural flavors derived from mint plants, including mentha piperita (peppermint) and mentha arvensis (wild mint). The flavor might seem slightly muted versus traditional options because we don't use any artificial sweeteners.
Are toothpaste and mouthwash tablets chalky?
When you first try tablets, they may feel a bit powdery or chalky compared to traditional paste. That texture is temporary, and after ~5 seconds or so this feeling will be gone. Tablets may take a few tries to get used to, but stick with it - Mother Earth will thank you.
What volume of paste or rinse should I expect from tablets?
Since most people use more toothpaste and mouthwash than needed (>2x more!), the volume generated from our tablets might feel like less than you’re used to. Try adding a splash of water if you prefer. Our tablets are perfectly portioned to give you the exact amount you need to brush or swish, plus they reduce overuse and wasted product.
How do Mintly toothpaste tablets compare to traditional toothpaste?
Compared to traditional toothpaste, people note tablets seem to create less volume of paste (that’s ok – they’re portioned correctly!) and have a more powdery or chalky texture at first (also ok – bits can help with plaque removal). After a after a few tries, most say they are used to this slightly different experience.
How do Mintly mouthwash tablets compare to traditional mouthwash?
Compared to liquid mouthwash, people note tablets seem, well, less liquid-y. We recommend adding an optional sip of water if you prefer more liquid volume. Once the tablet has activated, you can swish and spit like normal.
Product detail
What are toothpaste tablets?
Toothpaste tablets are like traditional toothpaste, only they are made without water and pressed into a small pill-like shape. This waterless format means that we don’t need to add extra preservatives, or ingredients like thickeners or humectants (which retain moisture) to create a paste consistency.
What are mouthwash tablets?
Mouthwash tablets are a liquid-free alternative to traditional mouthwash, made without water and pressed into a small pill-like shape. This waterless format means that we don’t need to add extra preservatives, and the compact size means space saved by your sink and removal of traditional plastic bottle packaging.
Do Mintly tablets expire?
Our toothpaste tablets with fluoride have a shelf life of 36 months. For our other products, including toothpaste tablets fluoride free and mouthwash tablets, we recommend using the tabs within 6 months of opening your jar or refill pouch for best results.
How do I store my Mintly tablets?
All Mintly tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and protected from excessive moisture. Check out our labels for individual product-level details.
What if my tablets look discolored?
It's super important to keep Mintly tablets in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and protected from excessive moisture. If the tablets are exposed to certain elements like heat or moisture, they may slightly change color (think speckled and/or a light tan color), especially since we don't use any artificial colors or preservatives to keep the tablets perfectly white. But don't worry, the tablets are still totally safe to use.
Where are Mintly products made?
Our toothpaste tablets are made in Germany, and our mouthwash tablets are made in the UK. These products are packaged, stored, and shipped from the USA. Our toothbrushes + floss are made and packaged in China, where eco-materials like bamboo grow natively (fun fact: China has the most abundant and diverse bamboo species!).
What are your toothbrush bristles made from?
A little-known fact is that bristles are super tricky from a sustainability standpoint, so we did a ton of research here. We chose what we believe is the best option for oral health + sustainability, which are soft, biodegradable bristles made of nylon 4 with infused charcoal to aid in freshening breath and whitening. Nylon 4 means we have soft but sturdy bristles for a gentle, effective clean, and the material biodegrades (or deteriorates naturally over time) in 3-4 months in the right conditions, e.g., activated sludge, specific compost, or seawater. That said, we still advise removing the bristles with tweezers or pliers so the base and heads of our eco toothbrush can be safely composted.
Because bristles are a hot topic in the eco-world, we also wanted to note the other bristle options we considered and highlight why we didn’t choose them. The only fully compostable bristles available today are made with boar hair; because we are proudly cruelty-free, this was a non-starter for us, plus this material can be stiff and irritating for teeth and gums, and makes it easier for bacteria to grow. We also explored plant-based bristles made from castor bean oil; the big challenge here is that the oil itself is processed so many times to get it into bristle form that the process requires excess resources and energy, making manufacturing super environmentally unfriendly and leaving you with bristles made from bioplastics that still take years to break down (and are very far from a castor bean).
All in all, we chose what we think is the best option available today, but know there is a still a lot of work to be done to make a truly eco-friendly bristle.
What is your floss made from?
Our floss is made from natural corn straw and plant-derived candelilla wax, and flavored with peppermint essential oils.
How do I manage my products at the end of their life?
Toothpaste + mouthwash tablets: once you’re through your tablets, you have a few options – you can remove the label and recycle your glass jar and metal cap, reuse your packaging for other purposes, or refill it with more tablets (our personal favorite option!).
Eco toothbrush: the base of our toothbrush is made from sustainable Moso bamboo which can be composted. For the bristles, even though they are made from biodegradable materials (meaning they will deteriorate naturally over time), we recommend removing the bristles with tweezers or pliers so that they can be disposed of separately, and so that your bamboo toothbrush handle and head can be safely composted.
Eco floss: our floss is made from natural corn straw and plant-derived candelilla wax and can be composted after use. For the glass jar, you can either recycle it, reuse it (great for small items like paper clips, safety pins, or even mints + toothpaste tablets!), or refill it with refill floss spools.
Are Mintly products safe for kids?
Our toothpaste and mouthwash tablets are a fun and mess-free way for kids to clean their teeth, and our eco toothbrush has soft bristles that are gentle on children’s teeth and gums.
For all children under 6 years of age, make sure to instruct and advise on good brushing and rinsing habits to minimize swallowing. Because oral health is so important, we always recommend checking with your dentist or doctor on specific oral care needs for your children, and when to start things like flossing (can be anywhere from ages 2 to 6). We also recommend supervising children as necessary until they are fully able to care for their oral health without supervision.
PRO TIP: to make sure kids don’t accidentally swallow a toothpaste tablet, try placing the tablet on a wet toothbrush and dampening it with water, then letting it soak and soften for 30 seconds.
Are Mintly products safe for pets?
No! We love pets more than life itself, but some ingredients in oral care products are no good for Fido and his friends. This is particularly true of xylitol, which we use for its natural sweetness and many oral health benefits, but which is unfortunately toxic for dogs.
Can I use an electronic toothbrush with Mintly toothpaste tablets?
Of course! Any toothbrush will work, though we have a personal bias towards Mintly's eco toothbrush :)

About us
Where did the idea for Mintly come from?
Our team has deep roots in the consumer products world, so we are super familiar with the sustainability challenges plaguing the oral care industry. Non-recyclable tubes! Plastic packaging everywhere! Confusing ingredients you can't read or pronounce! We knew there was a lot of room for improvement, to say the least. From there, we geeked out on oral health to come up with better solutions, for people and the planet. And we're still constantly learning and evolving to bring out the best oral wellness options possible!
Who is Mintly's founder?
It’s me, Katie! After spending several years in the world of consumer health and wellness, oral health stuck out as a category prime for a revamp. For something almost everyone does several times every day, it didn’t seem to have modernized the same way as other personal care and lifestyle categories. In a world where even luggage and mattresses have evolved, this didn’t seem right. So I started diving into the world of oral wellness to figure out how to create something that worked that was also innovative, sustainable, and fun – a combination of words that don’t usually come to mind when people think about oral care.
And so sprouted Mintly! I transformed into a full-fledged oral health nerd and have been working ever since to create an approach to oral wellness that is efficacious, impactful, and exciting. From the early days of throwing potential brand names past friends, to sealing samples in my kitchen with a hair straightener, it’s been a journey and a dream. I'm so excited to share Mintly with you and change the game in oral health and wellness!
When were you founded?
Mintly officially launched in 2021! That said, the idea for Mintly dates further back and was born in 2020, and while that wasn’t the best year in history, it’s the birth year of the brand idea so we can’t totally hate on it.
